The auction opened bidding at $62,500, with 20 bidders eventually bringing the price up to that final amount of $156,000. Specifically, Heritage Auctions says that this copy has “set a world’s record for the highest price paid for a video game at auction.” That’s a rather specific record, but apparently it’s a record nonetheless. That, according the auction organizer Heritage Auctions, is enough the make this copy of Super Mario Bros.
